I want a pet corn snake?

i have for about 3 years i asked my dad recently he said yes okay but my mum said "why?" and i thought about it for a second, and the reason is because i want company and something to hold and keep in my room. Are these the right reasons and will i get bored of it becuase i do love animals and snakes especially but i don't want to get a snake when my mum isnt keen on them and then not look after it even though that doesnt sound like me. What i am trying to say is will my interest in it wear off, and what will i do when i need to go to university in 4 years time (looking into the future by quite a bit)
