I'm confused if the Taliban banned opium does that mean we are fighting for the drug lords?

They (the taliban) did not need money when they banned it (it is fairly cheap to subjugate an ignorant and uneducated population and the fact that swords for beheading are not expensive, but to fight a modern Army, the US Army you need money to buy weapons) and now that they do need money to buy weapons all of a sudden it is ok to grow poppy's. So much for that higher moral standard of Islam.
